| Outgoing Complaints |
| Item |
Description |
| Complaint Return Address | Put
the email address that will be used as the Return Address for sent complaints here.
Some ISPs will allow you to use a different email address than the actual address for the account
to send mail. As an example, it is often possible to enter an address you have on one of the free
email services or a completely 'fake' address here while still using the SMTP server and other
fields from your regular ISP email account. Doing this is entirely up to you [and whether your ISP
allows it] and affects where or whether you receive replies to the spam reports you send out. |
Resend To
Email Address v1.2 | This the Email Address
that resent mail will be sent to when the Resend button is used in Check Spam and MUST be a valid
Email Address or Resend will not work. It can, however, be any email address you have.
If you are using Mozilla Thunderbird as your email client and have multiple email accounts there is
a nice add-on to make replies to resent mail select the proper account called Correct Identity 1.3.1 at:

|
| Account | Put the account name
your ISP or network administrator has furnished you for your mail in this field [this may or may
not be the email address from the Email Address field, depending on individual server
configurations]. If you have your email account from your email client open [good idea as it makes
this the most accurate], this is the same as the "Account ID" or "Account name" or "Logon name",
etc. from the email account in your email program. |
| Password | Enter the password
for the email account.
NOTE: Password fields must be typed in! Copy & Paste never works in a password field, anywhere,
since all it ever does is copy and paste the characters you SEE in the field - not the ones you
put in there originally.
Don't feel bad - This has never been painfully obvious. |
| Outgoing SMTP server | Put the
name or IP address of the server your ISP or network administrator has furnished you for outgoing
mail in this field. This is the same SMTP server used in the regular email client account you
have selected to use. |
| SMTP Server Port v1.2 |
Use this if the SMTP server you are using to send mail uses a different
Port than the default port 25. If the settings in your working Email account in your normal Email
Client override port 25 then enter the same port number from there into this field. The value in
the field is initially set to 25 by default. |
| Server Timeout v1.2 |
Use this pulldown list to set the length of time in seconds SpamX will wait
for a reply from the SMTP server when sending spam reports or resending mail. The default is set
to 10 Seconds which is normally plenty of time but can be adjusted anywhere from 5 to 30 Seconds
in 5 Second increments as required. Generally, if you receive repeated timeout errors when
sending out reports, you should try increasing the timeout in 5 Second increments until they stop.
Reducing the timeout has no effect on report sending speed, it just means an error will be
returned more quickly if there is a problem on the server side. Higher values mean you will wait
longer to find out if there is a problem with the mailserver. |
| Server Requires Auth v1.2 |
Check this box if your outgoing mail server requires SMTP Authorization
[more and more do these days]. This will also be indicated by the settings in your working Email
account in your normal Email Client. |
| User Agent | This field
contains the name and current version of the SpamX software and is there for reference. It is
also used as the User Agent header item in outgoing complaints and resent mail. This value can be
changed in the registered version just in case irresponsible ISPs start refusing SpamX reports
like many already do with SpamCop. |
