NSLookup2 is the spamfighters lookup utility written by a spamfighter for spamfighters. Many of you have probably already been frustrated having to repeat lookups while trying to track down the ultimate source of a spam due to forgeries and convoluted mailing paths. With that in mind, NSLookup2 provides 2 history lists: One for all recent successful lookups and another for the Name/whois Servers used.

SpamX, of course, does all of this for you automatically when the Parse [header only], Preview [header + body links] or Report Spam [sends what Preview displays] buttons are pressed in Check Spam, parsing both the mail headers plus any links in the body of the spam and determining the ultimate source of the spam as well as the reporting addresses for all the body links but, if you want to dig more deeply or just happen to be curious about how this stuff works, NSLookup2 makes the task easy and far less time consuming than any of the other utilities I have seen.
That's why it was written!

The lookup and whois functions in NSLookup2 can also be used to precheck the availability of domain names you may want to register without running the risk of putting YOUR original ideas into someone else's website. Always be sure to perform a final check using the registrar you register the domain with.

NSLookup2 also includes several types of NSlookup options available from the address pulldown at the upper left of the window including the ability to query [by IP address] the same Realtime Blackhole Lists SpamX uses when analyzing incoming spam as well as a variety of the most useful DNS and whois servers preloaded into the Recent Servers pulldown below the Lookup button. The address options and DNS Servers in the Recent Servers list work in conjunction with the Lookup button and the whois servers work with the Whois button.

Whois also allows you to look up the reported owner of a domain and automatically selects the proper whois server for .com, .net and .org Top Level Domains [TLDs] when a domain name is entered [NOTE: Enter just the domain WITHOUT the "www." when performing a whois on a domain name]. For domains with other TLDs [which spammers LOVE to use], and the breaking up of the responsible registrars by ICANN, a variety of other whois servers responsible for the relevant TLDs has also been added v2.0 .

v3.0 There is no longer a need to pick the whois server for .com or .net TLDs, NSLookup2 does it automatically. For all lookups, the Recent Servers list defaults have been better organized.
