How Proxy Mode works

|
|
Setting mail for Proxy operation
If your mail client allows this, set the
Proxy Server address to localhost or 127.0.0.1 and the Port to 21336 in the Email
Client.
The images below show the path and settings for Mozilla Thunderbird Preferences for SOCKS
proxy operation. [Thunderbird version 1.0.7]
As of Thunderbird 1.5 the Connection Settings has been moved to under "General".
|
|
Thunderbird pre-1.5

Click "Advanced" on the left of the window.
Click the small triangle next to "Offline and Connection Settings" if it is a single line
to
expand the line to match the picture.
Click "Connection Settings"
|
- OR - Thunderbird 1.5

Look under "General"
|
BOTH Versions:

Select "Manual Proxy Configuration",
Enter "localhost" [or 127.0.0.1] for the SOCKS host,
Enter "21336" for the port
Select SOCKS v4, all as shown above.
Click OK
Then click OK in the Options window.
[Thunderbird 1.5 - Just close the "General "window
The OK button is also gone] |
In Addition:

The timeout setting is now in the Advanced -> General Preferences window for Thunderbird 1.5.
This is far better than editing the prefs.js file but the setting in the prefs.js file no longer does
anything if Thunderbird is upgraded from an earlier version. The timeout MUST be set here. |
